A Work in Progress

Work for progress
We are only a work in progress if we are doing the work to progress.

“I’m a work in progress.”
This is such a common phrase these days. You’ve probably even said it yourself a few times. I know I’ve used it before. Usually after having made some error of some sort. This statement may be meant to be utilized in a humbling and honest manner. But it is important to recognize how easily this phrase can be used as an excuse or cop-out.

We are all a work in progress. But, it is important to understand the difference between using such phrases as a crutch. Becoming complacent and giving into or making excuses for our imperfections. Or being able to accept our own shortcomings and strive to learn from them. Becoming a better version of ourselves in the process. Continue reading “A Work in Progress”

Lack of Power is my DilemmaAwareness

“Lack of power is my dilemma,” a common statement if you have had any experience with any of the Twelve Step programs. At the beginning of the road to recovery, the admission of one’s own powerlessness is the catalyst. As a recovering person myself, my admission came from sheer desperation from having found myself from complete spiritual and emotional bankruptcy. As well as, the physical loss of family, homes, and career. Needless to say, at the point that I returned to twelve step recovery, the admission of my own powerless came with ease. However, coming to understand the realm of my powerlessness took some time.

Time to Pick Up the Pieces See what I’ve Gained

This past year has been an inspiring life changing year for me. It was during this past year that this whole ‘Journey in Principles’ idea has begun to take form. Even with more than 13 plus years in 12 Step recovery. I have gained more self-awareness and more direction over this past year.

The changes I have made in the past year have been fruitful. They have consisted of taking on a new physical challenge with my eating and exercise habits. Finding a routine that has been working for me through
